PRODUCTION OF ARGAN OIL IN MOROCCO
We have entered into a partnership with a group of women’s cooperatives in the Essarouira region of Morocco, where virgin Argan oil is produced. It is produced by Berber women using an age-old method, which guarantees an unrivalled quality of oil.
The Argan tree plays a fundamental environmental and socio-economic role: it helps to prevent soil erosion along the border with the desert and is critical in the fight against the desertification.
Argan oil is one of the main sources of income for the local women. It therefore contributes to the economic development of Essaouisa and the emancipation of Berber women.
HARVESTING DAMASK ROSE BUDS BY MOROCCAN WOMEN AT EL-KELAA M’GOUNA
The valley of the roses lies at the foot of the Atlas Mountains, near to the Dadés gorges, and is irrigated by the River Asif M'Goun. IDamask roses are an extra crop for Moroccans who plant them in shrub-like hedges to mark out their market gardens.
After they have been harvested, the buds are left to dry inside the Kasbahs and are used for fragrant pot-pourris. The price of the roses is set, which provides local families with an additional source of income and to a business opportunity in this remote valley.
